About ESC AI
EscAI is a design research project by Todd Kliewer within Leaky OS.
We are investigating how to preserve places, activities, and relationships where AI is deliberately absent. We use AI to help build the project, including this website and its imagery. That contradiction is part of the research.
What is available now?
This website contains design proposals, a working page-animation control, and a fictional story with linked scenes. It does not announce an operating retreat, installed casino experience, bookable event or participant research results.
The Preserve proposes an arrangement. Nobody Knows imagines an afternoon inside it. Experiments puts small choices in your hands. The Inquiry asks what those choices amount to.
Images and fiction
The pictured people and settings are imagined and generated with AI. They are not photographs of participants, an operating venue or a verified space without AI. Fictional dialogue is not participant evidence.
Privacy
This site has no account form, research submission, analytics code or session recording. It does not send your story choices to a research database. Normal requests for pages and images still reach the hosting provider.
If you use the animation control, your preference stays in this browser when local storage is available. The controls also work when storage is blocked.
Accessibility and controls
Use the navigation links to move between pages. Every scene has a Back link and a Leave the story link. All reading and navigation work without JavaScript.
With JavaScript enabled, Esc closes Page controls. Within a scene, Esc follows Leave the story. On other pages, Esc pauses animation. Page controls and the Experiments page also provide visible buttons.
Animation starts paused unless you have chosen otherwise. A reduced-motion preference is respected until you explicitly start it.
WCAG 2.2 AA is our design target. We have checked source structure and control logic. Rendered phone, screen reader and independent accessibility testing remain to be completed; this is not a conformance claim.
