You set the card in the empty tray. The receptionist looks at it, then at you.

You say it was on the table. She turns it over. Ask for the other menu.
She smiles, but does not explain.
Behind her is a photograph of the terrace. The chairs all face the water. You mention that somebody has moved them.
They do that.
She leaves the card in the tray. Outside, a delivery driver holds the door for someone carrying flowers. For a moment you can hear the street as clearly as the café.
